Last week saw the grand finale of St. Frances Cabrini’s food drive to support the Drive Away Hunger program. Students rallied together with the support of family and brought in 968 pounds (439 kilograms), 300 pounds more than last year, of non-perishable food items. Local farmers, Jeff and Paula Zelem, donated an additional 1,500 pounds produce making this year’s total an astounding 2468 pounds (1,119 kilograms)! Paula is the secretary at St. Frances Cabrini.
Each pound of food is matched by a dollar from Farm Credit Canada. On October 16, World Hunger Day, employees from Farm Credit Canada arrived to pick up the donations. The group took all of the food items to the local food bank. “We dropped all the food donations off at the Delhi Food Bank. They were very excited to see that there was so much raised and extend their thanks to the staff and all of the children who participated in this wonderful event,” said Laurie Stegenga, Farm Credit Employee.
Prinicpal Carol Luciani expressed that, "as a principal, I am so proud of the generosity shown by the school community. St. Frances Cabrini follows the teachings of Jesus 'if you love me feed my sheep'. Social justice, generosity and compassion are evident in our fine school."
