Catholic Board’s literacy initiative pays off

September 24, 2015 (Brant, Haldimand, Norfolk) - The Brant Haldimand Norfolk Catholic District School Board is pleased to report that Catholic secondary school students’ Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test (OSSLT) results improved in all secondary schools of the Board.

Historically, student achievement initiatives have had strong focus on literacy and results over time for our system have demonstrated continued success. “As a school district, we are proud of the efforts of our students, supported by the collective work of parents and staff, as they continue to perform close to or above the provincial average.” said Superintendent Patrick Daly. “Our teachers, support staff and administrators will continue to work together to respond to the individual needs of our students in an effort to enhance student learning.”

Chair of the Board, Rick Petrella, was also pleased with the OSSLT results and commented that, “Trustees received information highlighting the Board’s Focus on Literacy initiative where teams, made up of Grades 7 to 10 teachers, worked collaboratively to improve literacy instruction. That teamwork is certainly demonstrated in this year’s OSSLT results.”
