Chair Petrella's Year-End Message to Staff

My Dear Friends,

As another school year comes to an end, we can look back with great pride on the many accomplishments of the students and staff who continue to shape and define the Brant Haldimand Norfolk Catholic District School Board. Our students continue to grow in their academic and spiritual journey, which can be directly attributed to your hard work and dedication throughout the year.

I understand this time of year can be hectic with report cards, preparing for graduations, and numerous year-end tasks for all staff, and I wanted to reiterate to all of you that we, at the Board, truly appreciate and value the time and effort you dedicate to ensure the success of our students and to maintain our schools. Our students and staff have continued to excel and have been recognized at the local, provincial, national and even international level in a variety of endeavours and achievements. We, as the Board of Trustees, applaud these efforts and achievements and underscore how proud we are to have you all as part our system.

It has been a very busy and productive year for all of us. We have come to the last mile of the 2012-2015 Multi-Year Strategic Plan, and have already begun working on the new 2015 -2018 Multi Year Strategic Plan. This year, the Board engaged in a robust public participation process that was hosted in a virtual environment during April and May. During this process, over 2,000 participants shared and prioritized approximately 4,300 thoughts, ensuring that everyone had a voice at the table. We are confident and excited in the direction the new Strategic Plan is going, which will guide us in the years to come.

The Board has also approved its budget for 2015-16, which increases the Board’s operational budget over the 2014-15 revised budget by approximately $355,000 or 0.3%. The budget is once again in line with the Board’s ongoing commitment to provide a fiscally responsible budget, while maintaining effective, efficient, and equitable programs and services.

Our school communities continued our traditions of gathering to worship throughout the year through liturgical celebrations, school events, meetings, and for reflection and solace.  Our staff, in partnership with parents and parishes, helps to guide and inspire our students to become mature, caring and responsible citizens who exemplify the Ontario Catholic School Graduate Expectations. We are grateful for your involvement and commitment to our Board.

We acknowledge the ongoing support of the staff and all Catholic stakeholders for their positive impact on Catholic education, and thank each and every one of you for your dedication to our publicly-funded Catholic schools.

In closing, on behalf of the Board of Trustees of the Brant Haldimand Norfolk Catholic District School Board, we wish you all the very best and hope that you enjoy a safe and restful summer.

Best Wishes,

Rick Petrella
Chair of the Board
