Continued strong Academic and Applied Level Math results for Catholic students – ‘Stay the course’ say our parents
October 29, 2015 (Brant, Haldimand, Norfolk) - The Brant Haldimand Norfolk Catholic District School Board is pleased to report that Catholic secondary school students continue the trend of a solid performance in both Applied and Academic Level Mathematics. 86% of students studying at the Academic Level achieved at or above level three and the system’s Applied Level results continue to increase with 64% of students achieving at or above level three.
Two years ago, understanding the growing concern across the Province with respect to student Math results, the system focused its strategic direction on mathematics and implemented a Math Coaching initiative that connected Grades 7 and 8 classroom teachers with Grades 9 and 10 Math teachers. “Two years of improved results at the Applied Level indicate that we are on the right track,” said Superintendent, Patrick Daly. “These solid results don’t mean we are changing focus; they mean we are doing good work and will continue on the course that we are on.”
“With the 2012-2015 Strategic Plan completed, much work is being done to formulate the 2015-2018 plan,” said Chair of the Board, Rick Petrella. “The results of the online public consultation project “Every Voice Counts” told the Board that parents believe we should ‘stay the course’ with focus on improvement in the area of Student Achievement in Mathematics. Our new plan demonstrates that we’ve listened and value our parents’ input.”
