Community Use of School permit holders (all before school, after school, and weekend activity in our schools) have been contacted and provided the following information:

Important information for ALL Community Use of School permit holders

While we remain hopeful for provincial labour settlements, we must be prepared for the possibility that on-going labour sanctions could result in the cancellation of Community Use of School rentals and/or school closures. Should the withdrawal of services associated with the sanctions escalate, the Board may be placed in a position where we may need to cancel all rentals (including Before and After school programs). We are providing you with this information now, so that you can best determine how your organization will respond to the potential cancellation of your rental. There is a possibility that the Board will receive little notice, meaning that you may have to contact your users in a short amount of time.

We understand the challenges this notice presents and appreciate your understanding. If you have any questions, please contact Tracey Austin, Manager of Communications and Community Relations at taustin@bhncdsb.ca or 519-756-6505 Ext. 234

We have provided our permit holders with this information to ensure that they have received ample notice of the possibility of potential change to their permits (rentals) and have the chance, to put into place, a plan to contact their users in a short amount of time if required.

The following employee groups at Brant Haldimand Norfolk Catholic District School Board (BHNCDSB) are involved and have been directed by their union not to perform a number of duties:

  • Clerical/Technical Office Staff/Secretaries
  • Facilities Staff (Maintenance Staff, Custodians/Cleaners, Caretakers)
  • Educational Assistants (EAs)
  • Early Childhood Educators (ECEs)
  • Child and Youth Workers (CYWs)

This labour disruption arises out of the current negotiation process involving the Government of Ontario, the Council of Trustees’ Association, and the OSSTF.

All of our schools remain open and academic programming continues to be delivered to all students.

Our top priority remains the safety of those in our schools and the assurance of safe and secure learning and working environments for all students and staff.  Principals and vice-principals are working diligently to put plans in place to ensure the safety of our students is maintained.
