CONTEMPLATIVE RETREATS

Five contemplative retreats are being offered at Mount Mary in Ancaster and will entail an overnight stay. Specifics with respect to what to bring will be provided to registered participants prior to each retreat.

This retreat is being offered to Brant Haldimand Norfolk Catholic District School Board teachers participating in the NTIP program.

ASPIRING LEADERS

DECEMBER 7-8, 2017

This retreat is being offered to Brant Haldimand Norfolk Catholic District School Board staff participating in the Aspiring Leaders’ program.

SYSTEM STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT TEAM; SYSTEM SPECIAL EDUCATION RESOURCE TEAM; SYSTEM STUDENT SUPPORT SERVICES TEAM

FEBRUARY 22-23, 2018

This retreat is being offered to system level staff supporting student achievement, special education needs and well-being.

SILENT RETREAT “THE FIRST LANGUAGE OF GOD IS SILENCE.” (ST. JOHN OF THE CROSS)

APRIL 13-14, 2018

This retreat will take place in the context of listening to God through silence. It is Phase II of the contemplative retreats that have been offered over the past two school years and is open to staff, clergy and parishioners, with priority given to current staff.

TRILOGY SERIES ON THE CONTEMPLATIVE LIFE

PART 1 – OCTOBER 5, 2017

AN INTRODUCTION TO CONTEMPLATIVE LIVING IN TODAY’S WORLD

TIME: 5:30 – 8:00 p.m. (dinner provided at 5:30 p.m.)

LOCATION: Catholic Education Centre, Brantford

REGISTRATION FEE: $20 for non-BHNCDSB participants

FACILITATOR: Rev. Glenda Meakin

Rev. Glenda Meakin will develop an understanding of what living a contemplative life means and why it is so significant today. She will reference the teachings of some of the most influential contemplatives of the 20th century and will provide practical suggestions for entering a contemplative way of living.

Rev. Glenda Meakin is an Anglican priest who has led retreats in Canada, the United States and England on the teaching of Christian meditation and the contemplative life.

PART 2 – DECEMBER 5, 2017

THE LIFE AND TEACHINGS OF JOHN MAIN ON CHRISTIAN MEDITATION

TIME: 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. (lunch provided)

LOCATION: Blessed Sacrament Parish Hall, Burford

REGISTRATION FEE: $25 for non-BHNCDSB participants

FACILITATOR: Polly Schofield

Polly Schofield and her husband Mark live in Montreal and were close friends with Fr. John Main. Their children were the first pioneers to learn Christian meditation as taught by Fr. John Main under the guidance of Fr. Laurence Freeman OSB.

This session is offered to system and school administrators, faith ambassadors, chaplaincy leaders, those committed to the contemplative life Trilogy Series, interested participants from other school boards, clergy and parishioners.

PART 3 – MARCH 1, 2018

 

CONTEMPLATIVES IN OUR FAITH TRADITION FOR OUR TIMES

FACILITATORS: Teresa and Paul Tratnyek

This session will focus on the lives of St. Francis and St. Clair of Assisi, St. Teresa of Avila and St. John of the Cross and the wisdom they bring as significant contemplatives for our times.

Teresa and Paul are alumni from The Living School for Action and Contemplation. They will share their learnings and practice as a nurse and teacher, respectively.

BIRTHING WITHIN – AN ADVENT RETREAT

FACILITATOR: Anne Jamieson

How is God calling us this Advent to be ready once again for the birth of our Saviour? What is it to respond as Mary responds in faith and humility? Join us for a reflection on Mary’s extraordinary Advent journey and what we can learn about our own extraordinary call.

Dr. Anne Jamieson is an author, teacher, wife and mother. She holds her Doctor of Ministry (D.Min.) through the University of Toronto. She is the Director of Catechesis for the Diocese of Hamilton.

THEOLOGY ON TAP - “WALK HUMBLY WITH GOD – AN INNER AND OUTER RESPONSE TO LOVE”

THURSDAY, MAY 3, 2018

TIME: 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. (complimentary appetizers provided; cash bar)

LOCATION: Springview Farm Golf Course, Waterford

FACILITATOR: Fr. Paul Massel

Fr. Paul will share his story of being drawn to walk alongside those in palliative care and how God calls each of us to respond with love and humility to those right before us.

Fr. Paul Massel has been widely acclaimed in Canada and the United States for his performances in opera, music theatre and the concert stage, including a five-year run in the Phantom of the Opera at the Pantages Theatre in Toronto in the role of “André”. His studies in Palliative Care, Clinical Pastoral Education and Theology, culminated in a Master of Divinity degree, followed by his ordination to the priesthood in May 2000. He is presently Faith Animator and Board Chaplain for the Peterborough Victoria Northumberland and Clarington Catholic District School Board.
