The Brant Haldimand Norfolk Catholic District School board is working to implement the provincial government’s new Early Learning Program (ELP). The ELP requires all school boards in Ontario to begin a five-year roll out of full day kindergarten classes. Year one of the roll out is scheduled to begin in September, 2010.
The board has met with representatives of the local Best Start Networks and consolidated municipal social services managers to discuss the program. The Brant Haldimand Norfolk Catholic District School Board will begin the roll-out with eight full day kindergarten classes.
In selecting locations for the initial full day kindergarten classes, the boards considered the following criteria:
-The schools where students will benefit the most by the early introduction of full day kindergarten
-The existing facility meets the physical requirements for a full day program
-The impact on local child care businesses
