Aboriginal Grant Projects

Over the past school year, the Aboriginal Education Office of Ontario (AEO) has made funding available to school boards for initiatives in support of Aboriginal student achievement.  The funding is aligned with the strategic direction of the Framework and supports the ministry’s three core priorities of high levels of student achievement, reduced gaps in student achievement and high levels of public confidence.

BHNCDSB Grants for 2012-13

Voluntary, Confidential Aboriginal Student Self-Identification Promotion

What are the Board’s objectives of the project?

By establishing a First Nation, Métis and Inuit (FNMI) Community Committee, we will be able to promote the voluntary, confidential Aboriginal Self-Identification policy to increase the number of students who are self-identifying.  This project will also engage Aboriginal stakeholders in the development and implementation of a Voluntary First Nation, Métis, Inuit Self-Identification Policy Guide, and will aim to help parents become more comfortable with the data collection process.
